"If you or I send an email from work it should have a big disclaimer at the bottom, and letters from the Council have/should have been checked by management prior to being sent out. You can't do that with website contributions" Hi Adam Herein lines the problem as I see it. I had no idea that every letter from the Council has to be checked by management prior to be sent out. How many private companies or indeed PLCs can afford to operate in such a manner in this day and age? Little wonder our Councils plead poverty if they can afford so many 'jobworths' to check every letter. I agree that most Co's have disclaimers on emails but I can't see why contributions or info posted by officers for public information on forums can't also have such disclaimers. Its not rocket science. All that is required is that Senior officers encourage their subordinates to engage with their paymasters (i.e. the public) and supply them with a general disclaimer to cut and paste at the foot of their post. Council's really need to move into the 21st century. Obviously all these Directors and Assistant Directors and Heads of Department on enormous salaries are just trying to justify their jobs as 'letter checkers'. The Councils simply can't afford all these people anymore. In the real world in the private sector such positions are being made redundant by the day. |
