I suppose they need to find their feet and there is a lot of turmoil from the coalition finding the country is almost bust.
Not a good time to be a councillor at the moment, but even less so if you are a gravy train rider.
This is a time when councillors will need to be resolute and resourceful, creative and work with a council that has a can do mentality, making the best of everything it has.
Councillors will need to dig in and fight the influences of developers and others who use the tight times for advantage rather than long term benefit.

It is a shame though that even here in Brentford, it is just one councillor who is also Labour, who always makes an effort, keeps in touch and is a genuine part of the community he represents.

Shame there's not a few dozen more like him.
