| But what are those 'middle aged people on their own doing" What are they carrying" Work equipment? Materials not permitted on Public transport? High value goods? Delivering medicines or food to elderly ( lots of Middle aged people do that.) Trying to balance work and caring all done unpaid and unseen. Or simply suffering the many ailments that do not qualify for disability but do restrict one from safely riding a bike or walking distances. Plenty of people use a car instead of a van to make their living especially here as there is no space to have both. So the car does everything. Not one survey has ever taken the trouble to actually look at that. Right back to the Tram consultation when the surveys simply ticked single drivers as just that. No idea why or what they might be actually using the vehicle for. The assumption was vans are for work, cars are a frivolity. It's all assumption to suit a mindset. The reality is very different from simply making assertions. And the end result is a consequence of ignoring factors like these. As it is for those stuck on the bus for far too long, day in or day out or getting soaked from spray from roads that now have drainage obstructed and cyclists with unlit and mudguardless and thus unroadworthy machines, doing the same in two directions behind you. |
