There was a compulsory stop at the Red Lion heading towards Kew. Marked as a Headstop ( meaning the front of the then rear entrance buses would stop by the stop post.) That got removed when the Pub was demolished and returned further back as it was always too close to the traffic lights. There was also a stop outside Albany Parade westbound, the pull in of which still exists, which was replaced by the one just past McDonalds. The latest policy by TfL is to elongate distances between stops. Part of the Mayors policy of walk or cycle. Fine if you can. But damaging if you cannot. It's an example of a Transport Authority wrapped up in political policies and losing the core of what they are supposed to be about. Not unlike local authorities overbearing on peoples daily lives. London Buses meddling with things that ain't broke has all but destroyed the long established differential between a Compulsory and Request stop. Messing with the signage by LRT ( TfLs predecessor) reduced the clear distinction between the Bus Stop signs and the visual instinct for passengers was eroded. People now stick their hands out at every stop regardless . One thing has not changed though, The bus still often drives past! |
