I used it coming home from Ealing since I was a school. A stop early but the fare went from 2p to 3p at that stop. It used to say fare Stage on it - which meant it was the next step in fares! That's right. was more or less outside the horribly named 'Poor Door' of Westgate House. So before the zebra crossing . It had a pull in as some 65s used to turn and lay over there when it was a very long route to Leatherhead.. Then that went . The stop went when the old tower ( Mowlems I recall) was demolished and was supposed to be temporary. That must be about 20 years ago thinking about it. About the same time those potholes and rutted patches have been in the road almost in the same area! Most London Bus routes that cross trunk roads or roundabouts have stops either side even if close together for obvious reasons of safety. Something the LCC and GLC were very insistent on with the LTB and LTE. So going back a very long time for such forward thinking. Given that the subway was filled in some 15 years ago and there is now a large residential and 2 hotels with visitors unfamiliar with these roads who come via south ealing Stn, it's bizarre that this has still not been reinstated. My understanding is this has been raised at least a dozen times over 15 years and each time TfL have welched out. They ought to look more closely at their predecessors and look at how pragmatic they were. |
