Thanks to everyone who has commented on this subject so far. If - or should that be when? - this closure goes ahead it is clearly going to be something that will affect us all, as I cannot see how the, sadly dwindling number of, stalwart posties who look after us are going to be able to cover all Brentford (and other) walks from Feltham in a timely manner. In addition if this facility is not going to have a parcel collection point then we - the customers - are probably going to be even more inconvenienced, depending on where the eventual collecting point will be. Also, one wonders how long it will take to get the non-delivered parcels etc to such a collection point if it is not at the Sorting Office/base for the postmen? If, as the knowledgeable contributors to this discussion advise, there is no hope for the lease for the current Sorting Office to be renewed, then I really think pressure on both Royal Mail and the Council to find other local and suitable premises is what needs to happen. I, like NV Brooks, have never been in favour of industrial action - but also like him I support Martin Webb and his postie colleagues in their fight for implementation of the terms and conditions of employment that have apparently already been agreed. I feel this might be a long battle. |
