Losing mature trees isn't a good idea now when we are being told that planting more trees is one of the things that we should be doing to mitigate climate change. All that you ever see planted seem to be small saplings - unless it is at the Chelsea Flower Show or for Ant McPartlin's privacy. There are other trees available and maybe we should be making larger trees a condition of some of those agreements our Planning Departments make with builders and developers just to make it easier for them on site. Our easy-come easy-go lifestyles should take into account that it takes years for trees to grow large enough to stand under and just a few minutes to cut down. |
