One should only compare local roads during term-time and school holidays. A lot of the congestion is caused by parents on the school run who don’t have alternatives. There are six schools between Busch corner and Isleworth War Memorial, some of them are very large with 1000+ pupils, with another one opening at Busch corner in September 2017. I personally know a few people who hate driving to school, but are forced to because it is too far to walk (often they have toddlers and babies in tow) and 267 route is absolutely diabolical during school hours. May I suggest that one day Brentford, Syon and Isleworth councillors collectively try getting on 267 from London road after 8 in the morning, or 3.20 in the afternoon and see for themselves. Any takers, Guy? Work with TFL to improve the public transport for local residents before you authorise any more developments and close even more roads, and people might be less angry. I complained to TFL a few times, all I got was a standard reply “we will assess the capacity blah blah blah”. What happened to E8 route? Buses towards Hounslow were nearly empty, even at peak times, before Hounslow Council decided to add even more capacity. At the same time school children and hospital patients stand at the bus stops along Twickenham Rd, watching buses whiz by without stopping because they are full. If these road closures relate to another attempt to turn the borough into a “mini-Holland” (and get a share of £770 million cycling fund), council first need to think about those people who can’t and won’t cycle by improving existing transport infrastructure and incentivising people to get out of their cars and onto the public transport. Road closures only exacerbate the congestion and poison the air we breathe. The pollution along this stretch of the road with 6 schools is already on breach of EU legal limits, in fact Busch corner is nearly twice the limit. Thank you for poisoning our children, dear Councillors! |
