I've not counted more than 18 bikes at Brentford Station this past fortnight and I've managed to lock mine up after 09.30 with no problems. There's so much that could be done to make cycling easier and safer, but somehow everything seems to be both half cocked and costly and achieves nothing. But real improvements like traffic signal repeaters at eye level still have not appeared years after approval to trial and decades behind installation in europe. There's a dedicated and separeated section of road in Bloomsbury. All well and good...... Except Cyclists wont use it and use the now narrow road for motor vehicles. Why? one naturally asks The inner kerbs are so high they hit your pedals, It is thus too tight and dicey to pass another cycle and less than nimble cyclists keep crashing. Also you are trapped in it till the junction and if you wish to stop you have to dismount and lift your cycle out of the section. It cost ££££££s and was advised by....a cycle pressure group! The G.W. Road just needs simple improvements. A quality resurface, clear signage and eye level traffic light repeaters and to be swept properly and regularly. But given that this borough cant even manage that with a 100m footpath one does not hold out much hope. Far easier to fritter money away on jobs for the boys schemes funded by the taxpayer. |
