| Mrs Stephens taught me how to swim, she was a termagant but a very good teacher, I can remember like you going to the bath's to have a bath for the princely sum of three old pennies I would get a clean towel a piece of soap and a wonderful hot bath, but! of course that was not a regular occurence it was normally the tin bath every Friday evening in front of the Range, depending on how many children, one got out, mum would take a bucketful of dirty water out and pour a fresh hot bucket in for the next one, in our house you were dried off, hair combed and then the nit comb torture began (we were never sent home from school by nitty Nora) then we had a very large spoon of Radio Malt not nice!! in bed by 7pm. |
