| A very good summary from Raymond. It’s a shame the councillors in both Hounslow and Ealing, as well as Thames Water, aren’t more aware of the real cause of ‘flooding’. The ‘flooding’ that Guy Lambert frequently bemoans on Windmill Road isn’t flooding at all. They are usually large puddles that accumulate when there’s a bit of heavy rain and mostly on the corner with the A4 where the Jerry-built Performance Point block has gone up with its private hospital. Considering the cowboys who built it, there’s every chance that a fair bit of concrete found its way into the drains there. No doubt TW has investigated…. For those who live in the area there’s not been any proper flooding for about 15 years. It was a problem where the ground levelled out at the bottom of the hill and fire engines were often summoned to pump the water away. But the sewer there was cleared out years ago and there’s not been a major issue since. Looking at the SuDs work on Whitestile it’s not exactly clear how that’s going to work long term. A lot of gravel is being dumped into the excavation there but over time that’s going to get clogged up with silt washed down from streets level. Will there be regular maintenance of the SuDs? The one in Lammas Park appears to have been abandoned now. Cllr Lambert likes to blame home owners paving over their front gardens for parking for the ‘flooding’ (what he no doubt called puddles in his distant youth.) But a simple walk round the area would reveal that most properties on Windnill and the adjoining roads have no off street parking. It’s just a convenient stick with which to beat car owners by a man who has a car which he parks in a private space in his block of flats. Guy also conveniently ignores the massive building scheme at Reynard Mills which is almost entirely paved and which was happily approved by his council colleagues. It took a concerted residents campaign to reduce the scale of that development but any surface water run off from that estate is entirely down to Hounslow planners. Perhaps if there was less hysterical scaremongering from elected representatives and council officers in both boroughs a measure of common sense might prevail. Unfortunately common sense seems to be greatly lacking in this case. |
