| Vert telling that after decades of vehement denials, use of cameras and traffic orders are actually for revenue raising purposes and not actually road safety. So the assessments are based on profit potential and not on actual road safety improvements. Classic example is the A4 at Sutton Court Road. Cameras, not coloured yellow are generating ££££s for any one moving over 30mph. However, the signage of a speed change is minimal and in heavy traffic and depending on which lane you are in not visible. The signage is small and in summer obscured by tree foliage. And on a Blue background. There is no signage at all indicating where the road heading west resumes its standard 40 mph 'A' Road trunk road speed limit. Along other sections of the same road, the camera warnings and 40mph limit are on Yellow backgrounds, Highly visible and there are far more 40 repeaters. Several of which are on poles on the central divide. There is only one on this section and easily obscured if HGVs or buses are in abundance - which is the norm. Hence why other sections have repeater signs every few hundred metres The road lines are the same on the 40 mph sections with the exception of the traffic light junction sections. This is the rem from Chiswick all the way to Staines except at these Two Hounslow Junctions. The street light spacing is for a 40mph A road and also does not change. All part of what is taught to look for if uncertain of the limit by the organisations that run the speed awareness courses. I have no issue with the 30mph at these junctions. But clearly road safety is not the true rationale . If it were the same degree of clear and repetitive signage would be uniform. Moreso with a sudden change on a major Trunk Road. I understand that this has been flagged up and mentioned several times over the past 12 months but LBH and TfL won't act. Many who are fully aware of the road regulations win when challenging but so few do that it is still profitable. But this just underlines where the true abuse really lies. Using Faux safety as an excuse to raise revenue in a sly and false way. If LBH and TfL are really serious then put up visually clear and repetitive signage |
