| I tend to agree with Simon, although not necessarily with his tone. I've lived in the same area (north of the A4) for 20 years and brought up three children - the area has always been safe - I can't remember any serious accidents affecting pedestrians or cyclists during that time and they were seldom used as cut-throughs, except at times when accidents or roadworks closed other roads. The council are using scare tactics and outright lies to justify a change that was never wanted or needed by most of the people that lived on those roads. The consultation proves that - but even that was a con - by not restricting it to the local area, our weaselly councillor can claim that all the responses were from Ealing and use that as a reason to ignore the results. Going back to the original question of whether we should have this man representing us, the clear answer is "NO". Taking aside the pros and cons of this debate (and there are two sides), if he can't support the clear mandate of the majority, he doesn't deserve the job. |
