The road layout is fine, when you know what it is.  The first time you approach the MacD junction from the High street it seems really odd that there is a cycle  lane in the middle of the road.  What I have experienced a few times recently is cars queuing to go straight on, seeing that there is this wide expanse of road beside them, undertake the other cars waiting by going into the left hand only lane, and cutting up the queue.  If a cyclist got involved in this jumble they wouldn’t fare very well.
