I'm sorry, Jennifer, but you couldn't be more wrong. Nature is a very broad church and goes way beyond 'Adam' and 'Eve'.

The 'sex' spectrum is every bit as diverse as the 'gender' spectrum, and an individual's genitals often don't tell the whole story. It is estimated that intersex people comprise about 1.7% of the population. (It's said that being intersex is as common as having red hair.) With some, it's a case of indeterminate genitalia, others present entirely normatively and only discover their difference when, for example, they are having difficulty conceiving. Many never have any idea at all. Here's a useful quote from the Intersex Campaign for Equality website.

'The belief that Homo sapiens is absolutely dimorphic with the respect to sex chromosome composition, gonadal structure, hormone levels, and the structure of the internal genital duct systems and external genitalia, derives from the platonic ideal that for each sex there is a single, universally correct developmental pathway and outcome. We surveyed the medical literature from 1955 to the present for studies of the frequency of deviation from the ideal male or female. We conclude that this frequency may be as high as 2% of live births.'

'Bloody trans anythings' - It's estimated that approximately 1% of the population is trans or non-binary. Are you aware of the truly horrendous problems transgender people have to deal with in everyday life? stonewall.org.uk can provide some statistics: -

- More than four in five (83 per cent) trans young people have experienced name-calling or verbal abuse.

- Three in five (60 per cent) have experienced threats and intimidation.

- More than a third (35 per cent) of trans young people have experienced physical assault.

- More than one in four (27 per cent) trans young people have attempted to commit suicide and nine in ten (89 per cent) have thought about it.

- 72 per cent have self-harmed at least once.

- Two in five (41 per cent) trans people have been attacked or threatened with violence in the last 5 years.

- In the last year alone, two thirds (65 per cent) of trans people have been discriminated against or harassed because of being perceived as trans.

- Over a third (35 per cent) avoid expressing their gender through physical appearance for fear of being assaulted, threatened or harassed.

- Almost three in four (70 per cent) trans people avoid certain places and situations for fear of being assaulted, threatened or harassed.

- More than half (55 per cent) of trans people have experienced negative comments or behaviour at work because of being trans.

- One in four trans people report having been discriminated against at work.

- More than two in five( 44 per cent) trans people have never disclosed to anyone at work that they are trans.

- Almost half (48 per cent) of trans people in Britain have attempted suicide at least once; 84 per cent have thought about it.

- More than half (55 per cent) have been diagnosed with depression at some point.

- More than half (54 per cent) of trans people reported that they have been told by their GP that they don’t know enough about trans-related care to provide it.

I think you'll agree that the trans community has more than its fair share to deal with and the provision of resources is not unreasonable. It can be argued that there are some questions surrounding issues of M2F advantage in sport, and also regarding female-only 'safe spaces', but this doesn't take away from the need for all citizens to feel included and represented. It's about treating everyone as a human being.
