I think the word for that comment is excoriating and rightly so. With the massive developments of flats locally, our parks and open spaces become ever more precious, to hand them over to naked profiteering is dreadful. I don't blame the company behind this - they're in business to make a profit, however, making that at the expense of local people is dreadful. I even have sympathy generally for councils starved of the money to be able to afford the upkeep of the parks and buildings in them etc. up and down the country. But, for a Labour council - so we're told - to embrace this if you can't pay you can't play thinking is shameful. Hammersmith and Fulham put their parks and open spaces into Fields in Trust (formerly the National Playing Fields Asociation) to safeguard them - I wonder if Hounslow even considered this as an alternative to creeping privatisation let alone actually explored the possibility of it?
