| I believe the free first half hour (introduced by this administration, remember?) will be retained. I was simply pointing out that Hounslow, like most councils, is struggling to set a budget because of enormous cuts in our central grant at a time when demand for our most expensive services (mainly social care for the elderly) is increasing strongly. The government seems happy to help out leafy Surrey with a special £40M deal that they were hoping to keep secret. Nobody likes to raise charges but we are exploring every avenue to make ends meet. |
