I won't speak for Paul, but I have absolutely no recollection whatsoever of this business having been brought to my attention in 2007 and I strongly suspect the officers concerned will have approached the appropriate Lead Member from our coalition partner for approval in preference to discussing it with us. They did this rather a lot, knowing as they did that our partners' priorities were naturally different to ours, and that their knowledge of and interest in exclusively Isleworth matters would not have been on the same level. Of course, the latest move is much different in that it was to have been a Single Member Decision rather than being a unilateral move by officers. There is no way that either the Lead Member or his party could affect ignorance of this, and anybody who believes that the ward councillors were not fully aware and supportive of the proposal obviously doesn't read the letters column in the Hounslow Chronicle. This was a move inspired by the political leadership of the local authority to weaken the strategic position of a section of the community which does not operate under their party discipline, pure and simple. This has been Hounslow Labour's modus operandi for as long as I can remember, and I'm quite long in the tooth these days. |
