three members of my family were founder occupants of the Notting Hill Housing assoc. and you're quite right, they were formed as an antidote to the likes of Peter Rachman and the many 'Family trusts' that to this day own huge portfolios for property particularly in Hammersmith, Fulham, Shepherds Bush North Kensington and Acton. These family trusts are probably the biggest and longest running tax avoiding groups in the country and hugely secretive. Many of their tenants ( who are at least protected from their once intimidating ways by the 1968 housing act) still have outside loos and no proper heating. Sadly, Notting Hill H A as they become large players lost the focus of their origins and have become a huge property developer with the same ethos as the likes of Ballymore, Glenkerrin. But if you think Notting Hill are poor landlords, they pale to the dreadful A@ Dominion, who have an appalling reputation for many of it's sites and the plight of tenants under their auspices. So don't be taken in by Notting Hills image. Ask the same questions as you would if they were called St George, Barratts or Ballymore. |
