Hi Gill It's really quite ironic when you think about it. When I first became Lead Member for Housing in 2006 I was on the brink of dissolving the company and bringing the borough's housing stock back into direct local authority ownership because the absurd situation of having an ALMO whose most senior officer refused to recognise his own parent company made the position of Hounslow Homes completely untenable. Then at the eleventh hour he left, a new and responsible management was installed, and the relationship between ALMO and client developed into a rather good one. Presumably though the administration which replaced us hankers for the old ways when our estates were subject to a more political form of control and thus the modern Hounslow Homes is considered surplus to requirements. Had I taken our housing stock back into local authority management seven years ago it would have been to offer our tenants some protection from the unwelcome designs of the politicos. If this administration does it it will be precisely to impose those designs upon them. |
