Hurumph.  Not sure what you mean Phil, I am not looking for a political angle - often we see how politics gets in the way of getting a job done.  I saw some of this when we 'studied' the damage to pavements by builders and delivery vehicles, where often Councillors were ignored or, perhaps, patronised by some people within?

I was very pleased with responses from Councillors, including yourself, and Andrew Dakers in particular, but then we seemed to meet a wall of obstruction beyond that.

One of the most amusing parts (apart from when Mary Macleod almost fell over on an uneven area of paving) was when our MP Ann Keen, kindly came out to have a stroll around.  Ann Keen MP came without any fuss whereas after Mary MacLeod’s appointment was arranged somebody inside had the influence to have numerous areas of slabs mended a few days before her visit areas, coincidently I had pointed out to other people on their visits (spoilsports).  It was no difficulty as I just showed Mary MacLeod some of the many others.

Mary also had a ‘flurry’ of street cleaners – I had several conversations with people ringing me to ask if I had seen the number of street cleaners, at least 15 working one street which featured in the tour.    I think I told her this.

Point is that this, coupled with something I saw at a public event Ann Keen MP kindly invited me to, that I have never discussed with anyone, led me to believe how at odds the people around the political people are, with how normal, everyday, non-political people would expect to happen.  There seems to be a way of behaving, accepted by both sides, much like PM’s question time where the only people enjoying the spectacle are the people in the chamber.  Newly elected people are perhaps expected to carry on in this vein, and not challenge ways of working which (often) don't actually work and would not be acceptable elsewhere.

Hence my wonderment at the comments being voiced ‘into the air’ about HH.  Maybe HH are a political animal too.  :-(
