Tarmac actually sounds like a good idea to me! I complained about the state of the pavement slabs in Boston Manor Road 9 years ago, which led to the Council starting a campaign against me -simply as I asked them to tidy up the look of the street. It was so awful I perceived it as bullying and complained to that effect. They had a hearing, and ruled that I hadn't been bullied by them, despite conducting the hearing themselves, not telling me they were doing so, and not asking me for any info as to my point of view.... I still have all the paperwork as it made me mad at the time! Anyway, that's another part of the story, and as you can hear still weighs on my mind nearly a decade later! The long tall and short of it was that they bollarded some parts of the pavement, including blocking in a car onto one persons drive. They finally replaced the paving outside of my house with new slabs, but charged me for it (I was given no choice BTW), although refused to give any guarantee as to what they would pave it with, or guarantee the quality -despite me funding it. As it is, they did a descent job (thankfully, as it was with my money), but this is not so along the whole stretch. In the large open area adjacent to the Butts where the pavement has been dug up and re-laid a couple of times since, it is simply a mess despite not being that old. At least with tarmac you know what you get, and whilst others have suggested it's uneven, in my opinion its smoother than the slabs which seem to get so quickly unsettled. What's more, as a pram-pusher, and convener of several kids with scooters, tarmac makes for a nicer journey too. So, more black-stuff please for me on the pavements, but whether we'll actually get it, or anything, that make the place look better, is something I won't hold my breath for. |
