| Dawn The Government has not proposed any hospital closures. The Government has launched a public consultation and we are all free to give our views. I campaigned against the previous Labour Government's proposals regarding Charing Cross. That campaign was successful. Andy Slaughter and other Labour MP's are part of the problem and not part of the solution. He encouraged the previous Labour Government to allow NHS and other Government spending to escalate way out of proportion to results achieved. Although the present Government is pledged not to reduce spending on the NHS, it is sensible to periodically review and consult on hospital provision in view of changes in medical science, technology, demography and population. Those who claim the Government proposes to close hospitals are distorting the facts and are guilty of scaremongering. |
