Nigel is so very very right, I can remember Brentford High Street on a Saturday, remember the breadth of the pavement was much bigger, when going down to the shops was a trial, there were so many people. Between the Magpie and the County Court we had 4 Butcher's, 2 Chemist's, 3 Shoe shops, Pie & Eel shop, David Grieg's, a real Baker's, Pearces,Co-op, Martin's the barber's,Del-Harry's wet fish shop,Nat West on the other side of the road, a Cinema(The Queen's Hall commonly known as the Bug Hutch)Snooker Hall. That was just what! 150 yards. All diminished with the closure of the Docks. The Canal has once again become the saviour of Brentford, it would do us all good just to walk along the towpath, where once you could gather black currants etc for a pie. |
