Hello Andrew I would agree that the downturn in the property market should be an opportunity to boost social housing stock through acquisition rather than new build. Having said that the challenge across the public sector too is a lack of cash. Given a choice I would probably focus public sector resources on new build. Hounslow Council already owns the two flats that were fully refurbished, but they are apparently in the general fund rather than handed over to Hounslow Homes. No doubt the decision to sell was made when the property climate was better than it is now, but they have remained empty for at lease 10 or 11 months waiting for a buyer. Surly if they are up to letting standard, why can’t they be moved over to Hounslow Homes? To let to Council tenants who require larger accommodation. |
