| I was citing the Locata document as an example of the wider range of improvements needed to the housing system to improve supply and allocation issues. I would agree that the downturn in the property market should be an opportunity to boost social housing stock through acquisition rather than new build. Having said that the challenge across the public sector too is a lack of cash. Given a choice I would probably focus public sector resources on new build. However I am currently trying to get accurate figures from our Finance Department on the Council's prudential borrowing capacity and the extent we have drawn on this. Kind regards Andrew |
