In many parts of the country the Liberal Democrats are in coalition with the Conservatives.   In others they are in coalition with Labour.  This doesn't mean that Liberal Democrats are Conservatives or Labour supporters, nor that Conservatives or Labour supporters are Liberal Democrats. In the event of a serious BNP challenge in any particular area I would like to believe that, if all else failed, the Conservatives and Labour would be prepared to go into coalition to prevent them from taking control of a local authority. But that doesn't mean...well, you know what I'm saying! The Community Group went into coalition with the Conservatives in Hounslow because it offered us the only possible opportunity for delivering our Empowerment agenda, or at least some of it.  Neither a coalition with New Labour (which wasn't an available option anyway) nor a "Long Parliament" headed by the Chief Executive (which would have been the alternative) would have allowed for this.  As you know we have had to make some big sacrifices to achieve our objectives, but that is the way politics works. Our relationship with the Conservatives has on the whole been good and I believe there to be, Mogden notwithstanding, a lot of trust and respect between the two groups.  But if you have persuaded yourselves that we are in some way identical to the Conservatives (whilst somehow remaining fascists at the same time) then you are, as usual, only engaging in wilful self-delusion.
