| Neil I assume I don't need to tell you that Robin's increasingly bizarre allegations are complete and utter rubbish. If my memory serves me correctly Vanessa Smith reportedly received a number of unsolicited telephone calls and pizza orders many years ago. However to her credit she did not as far as I recall blame the ICG, indeed I think you'll find the ICG was not even in existence at the time. The legendary "firebomb" incident (which transpired to be a lighted match placed in a rubbish sack outside a house) was frankly the most pathetic and amateurish attempt at a smear that the ICG has ever encountered. Everything was timed perfectly for the press deadlines, Ann Keen arrived at the scene "before the fire brigade" (in the words of a police officer) and despite having apparently been the target of a maniacal assassination attempt the "victim" recovered her composure sufficiently within 36 hours to send her young children out alone on bicycles to shout foul abuse at ICG canvassers and residents on their doorsteps on election day. Neither the police nor the fire brigade subsequently recorded the incident as an attempted arson, and no ICG member was ever questioned. The alleged "shotgun pellet" incident is a completely new one on me which only seems to have suggested itself to Robin today, and similarly the unsolicited unsavoury mail allegedly received by him comes as news after all these years. With the exception of the unpleasantness experienced at the time by Vanessa, whom I personally believe to have been telling the truth (although there was no ICG involvement), the remaining allegations are in my view not only a figment of New Labour's collectively over-active imagination, but also a reflection of the vastly inflated sense they have of their own importance in our community. The Labour Party was finished in Isleworth a long, long time ago. Robin and his party's very few remaining members in this part of the world are the only people delusional enough to think we regard them with sufficient seriousness to risk our reputations and our liberty by burning, shooting and firebombing them out of existence. Most members of our community regard them as something of a comedy act, and treat them with amused indifference. It is their inability to appreciate the extent of their own irrelevance that really gives them away. I imagine we should expect more of this nonsense over the next few months as the full extent of their predicament at last begins to dawn on them. From Robin's extraordinary outbursts today it would appear that, in his case at least, that is already beginning to happen. |
