| I thought biggish solar PV projects had a payback time of 15 to 20 years in UK (though this should fall as energy becomes more expensive and devices become more efficient.) If the buildings are due to last appreciably longer than this and the owner has no better "get-rich-quick" projects to pursue, I would have thought it would make sense to have a go. Unfortunately I am not convinced that Tesco see their sheds as long-lived cathedrals. Nor currently do many UK public buildings allegedly planned for a 100 year life put their money where their mouth is and install renewable energy. This is not what I hear happens in Southern Germany...... I would agree though that the "low-hanging fruit" should be consumption reduction by improving insulation in lots of shoddy buildings. |
