| Just watched mad Zack on BBC Breakfast. What an absolute fruitcake. Main takeaways from his interview: Abolish the monarchy. Presumably to be replaced by one of Zack’s chums. Nationalise bus services at the cost of hundreds of millions, to be raised by taxing a handful of very wealthy people. Unfortunately for Zack that’s something only national governments can do so promising it in local elections is a red herring. Rent controls. Again something beyond the remit of local authorities but, of course, appeals to younger voters who can’t get housing. What is ignored is rental property is drying up because many landlords now feel it’s not worth the expense and hassle of owning them. Shortage of supply equals higher rents. There’s no antisemitism in the Greens ‘because I’m Jewish’. Yeah, right. Like all snake oil salesmen Zack sounds plausible and matey. The reality will be much higher tax for almost everyone and lower living standards across the board. He wants to finish off the race to the bottom already underway with Labour. No doubt the comfortably off septuagenarian Guy Lambert will say none of this is true. But then he would, wouldn’t he. Careful what you wish for next week. |
