A trip I've done several times with visitors who think that now I no longer have a "real" London postal code I must live out in the sticks. A 237 or 267 to Kew Bridge Station. Walk across Kew Bridge. It doesn't matter which side, great views from lots of opportunities to bring history to life if that's what interests your travelling companions. And a heap of things to see and do once you get to Westminster. My favourite is to walk across Westminster Bridge and along the South Bank and go for a ride on the London Eye with its great views of inner London, including all those secret gardens and squares, hidden away from view at street level. Walk a bit further to the Tate Modern (we're so lucky to have free entry to our major galleries and museums), or a theatre - there's the National, the Vic, the Young Vic and the Globe Theatre, the Festival Hall for a huge variety of music, the Imperial War Museum (nothing like as jingoistic as you might expect), the Garden Museum. Even Borough Market is not that far. Something for every taste!
