Yes, this is scary stuff. I do hope that Adam is right in thinking that a backlash may emerge. However I fear that the public's distrust of the planning system (misguided in my view), the general lack of community involvement, and local political jiggery-pokery will not help us.

The implementation of the proposals in this White Paper would mark a huge shift in power from local authorities and communities to the development industry.

Robert "How come I am still in the Cabinet" Jenrick gets these ideas, via Dominic Cummings, from such as Jack Airey of the Policy Exchange. We face the possibility of a disastrous future in terms of reduced community involvement, less social housing provision, and less local control over funds currently raised through Section 106 and the Community Infrastructure Level. What chance is there for better housing standards and for "building beautiful"?

One of the few glimmers on the horizon is that all of this would be subject to a Local Plan process, albeit reduced to a timetable of only 30 months. Now I am grasping at straws!
