As you say you choose to buy them but they are not necessary as newspaper can be used to line the bottom and shredded bank statements etc can soak up any liquid in the bottom so that when emptied the contents slide out.

Perhaps it would also be a good idea to stress the fact that liners aren't necessary.  Also giving people more info on the Love Food Hate Waste website and Olio and the West London Waste Authority one to help people learn how to waste less and store and measure portions better together with recipe use-it-ups.  Most supermarkets also have good websites to help you.  It can be tough when you are tired to be creative although that can be when some of the most interesting and tasty culinary delights are invented!
