It's a moot point. Aluminium attracts the highest price but doesn't weigh much. Food waste costs to recycle but it costs a lot less - ~£100 per tonne - than the incineration that awaits it in a black bag/wheelie bin, aside from the ecological benefits. Furthermore, food waste is heavy and we believe we currently only capture a small amount of it - maybe 20% - for recycling so it's a priority to push for more to be recycled. By the way, it currently goes to a recycling plant in Mitcham and yields two products - very pure gas which is fed back into the gas grid after being diluted (otherwise it would be too powerful), and high quality compost for farms. |
