Thank you, Phillipa - I didn't know that Neighbourhood Watch was still a thing. I'll investigate. One of our older neighbours was horribly scammed by some door-knockers; they took her for tens of thousands of pounds. My philosophy is that if I want a service, I'll find my own service provider. Anyone knocking at the door offering, well, anything gets extremely short shrift. As I mentioned, my husband is more trusting - had I been home 15 minutes earlier, I'd have opened the door and told them to bog off. The Met's response was predictable - I was referred to Action Fraud. I have previous experience with that organisation; sadly, it's time I'll never get back. I suppose the message must be - DON'T AGREE TO SERVICES OR GIVE MONEY TO ANYONE WHO KNOCKS AT YOUR DOOR! with any luck, if people keep saying no, they'll lose interest and go away. |
