Some might question the morality of the aristocracy still living the high life in a time of such awful austerity imposed by their mates in government. The Duke has had quite a lot of public money both here and at his seat in Northumberland for various money-making wheezes, taxpayers money. And that doesn't even cover the subsidies from the EU as a one of the biggest landowners in this country. The least we should expect is that some responsibility and respect is shown towards local people who live in close proximity to his stately homes and who care about them enough to want to preserve them for future generations, and not have them used as means for some (dubious) money making schemes. All people ask is that we try to work together towards keeping Isleworth and Brentford pleasant places to live - building all over allotments that date back 100 years is not the way. |
