| With regards to free charging, who then pays for the electricity? Do you envisage a central governement scheme or do local councils pick up the tab? If it is funded from general taxation, there is a risk public transport users, walkers and cyclists would regard it as unfair. A road tax supplement based on engine size of fossil fuel cars might work in the short run but as they get phased out, becomes also unworkable. I like the objective, but there needs more meat on the bones on the proposal. As to bus lanes, if electric cars become much more popular in the future, and the volume of electric cars gets to a point where they clog up the bus network, one has to plan for withdrawing that benefit. Building in a sunset clause - saying it will expire in 5 years would be wise. |
