Here's an account of the meeting he had in Denmark (googled like you did) https://www.vice.com/en_uk/article/594kz8/so-what-was-boris-johnson-doing-in-copenhagen-anyway For me, the key sentence is this: "So far, so grim, but like so many politicians making bigoted statements, Boris Johnson softens the edges. He's not above slipping in some relatable prejudice to play to the Telegraph letters page colonels, but he plays this off against the image of an affable rogue rather than a ranting bigot. And so, while managing to stigmatise burka wearers, he was actually arguing that banning the burka – as Denmark recently has – "seems a bit extreme" and at odds with the country's liberal spirit." So it's Boris deploying his racist dog whistle to please The Prime Ministerial selectorate whilst making it all deniable - and here's you denying it. Whatever you think of him (and what I think is unsuitable to print on a family website) you can't deny he is very cunning. |
