I nosed round the site today and met the site manager (?)for the main contractor. He confirmed that the project has been 'shelved' by the client, Hyundai and that they are in attendance merely making the site safe. He did not know about advertising signs but he did mention that 'somebody else' owns the freehold and this appears to be an issue for the client. The council has fought a long battle against the advertisement on this building: we repeatedly refused planning permission and were repeatedly overruled on appeal until finally last year the tribunal agreed with us. It's conceivable the landowners are lining up another attempt to restore the advert: I've heard eye-watering values attached to its rental. I believe (not 100% sure) the freehold is held by an overseas conglomerate via a wholly-owned UK subsidiary. |
