My understanding is that there is a heavy plant hire depot based at the southern end of the Trumpers Way estate and, possibly as a side-line, their kit has been used to remodel and landscape the Wyncote Farm land . I do not know where the material to raise the land level has been sourced - but it is considerable. It is possible that originally some material was sourced from canal dredgings - but other stuff must have been brought in over the years. The work has also resulted in the blockage of the footpath that was created from the bridge over the canal at Osterley Lock to Trumpers Way. There was comment on EalingToday a few years back : http://appasp.ealingtoday.co.uk/server/app/forum/ShowMessage.asp?ID=1017376 Topic: Destruction of woodland Posted by: Adrian Orchard Date/Time: 16/08/14 13:46:00 Those of you who enjoy walking by the canal at Elthorne Waterside Park should be aware that the woodland on the other side of the canal is being destroyed by diggers as I write. This process has been going on for several months, but has recently accelerated. The Council are aware but each Department says they are powerless to stop it. This land, known as Wyncote Farm, was sold by the Council in 1990, and Legal covenants were placed on the land stating that the land could only be used as a horseriding school, nursery, playing field, open space or facilities for the elderly and/or disabled. It also guarantees public access to the land which has now been blocked. Clearly what is going on is unlawful, and I suspect only the Council can stop it. I would estimate that the woodland could be cleared as far as Osterley lock within a month. Please take a walk down there and see for yourselves. I would ask anyone who cares about this lovely spot to lobby the council to take action. |
