I posted this on the Chiswick W4 site under Closure of the Police Station - it seems relevant here too:- It's now commonplace for this type of dishonesty to be accepted with a shrug as commonplace - too much trouble to bother with. In my opinion this is terrible and urgently needs to be addressed - small crimes grow into bigger and bigger crimes. I am sure as a society we must adopt a policy of zero tolerance to ALL crime, however small. It's a bit like flytipping, one bag quickly grows into a rubbish heap, one graffiti scrawl soon covers the entire side of a bridge etc. These breaches of honesty must be stamped out and not tolerated - it all started when the local bobby was no longer allowed to box your ears or haul you off back to mum for a dressing down for nicking sweeties or apples! It is vital that all children are taught right from wrong at a very early age, they need to be shown a good example by their elders. If they see even minor dishonesty being accepted or even praised by their elders, what does that say about us? How can an educated society accept dishonesty and the disregard of any respect for its citizens? Here's a good New Year resolution, "Honesty at all times". Start with the small and grow into the bigger. |
