I agree - we too had a beautiful cat from the RSPCA - although our vet cast some doubt on the information they'd given us. However, it's true that they do have a reputation for euthanasia rather than re-homing. It's my experience that they are very reluctant, not to say non-existent when you need assistance with a stray/abandoned cat.
