The use of what is not only a false name but a quite obviously false name in order to gloat at residents is indicative not only of stupidity, but of monumentally condescending arrogance on the part of our local representatives. And whilst I have my suspicions as to the identity of the poster, I may certainly be wrong and we should not automatically assume that Sue is involved. The worrying fact is that it could be any one of them (do we see any denials or disassociations on here?), such is the belief which they clearly all have in their own untouchability and the attitude they have towards us all, as was clearly demonstrated by their nonchalant dismissal of the concerns of residents (including the potential consequences for schoolchildren and a local hospital) when doing the bidding of their new-found friends in Church Street. On the question of the mayoralty, I personally have been aware of this appointment and of the reasons for it (the celebration of a particular birthday and a thank-you for years of loyal service to the leader) for the best part of a year, so there is no way that any discussion which may have taken place at the AGM could have been anything other than a rubber-stamping exercise. I was though surprised at the choice of running mate, not because I have any issue with Councillor Malhotra whom I'm sure will make an excellent Deputy Mayor and will do the borough proud, but because I would have thought that some thanks might have been due to Sue's ward colleague Linda Green, who has been tirelessly supportive of her throughout her present tenure, and whose personal popularity was by far the biggest reason for the fact that the whole team was able to hold the ward with such a substantial majority at the last local elections. It would appear that gratitude, as well as dignity, is in very short supply in the hallowed company in which she has chosen to move. |
