I'm still not convinced: many elderly and infirm people will have children or grandchildren who will carry out online business on their behalf.

In any case, the fact remains that allowing people to book doctors' appointment over the Net, does not stop anyone else booking them by more old-fashioned methods. I don't like the dog-in-the-manger attitude that says that such facilities should be available only if they are available to everybody.

As for employers restricting access, I should blooming well think so: why should they pay people to spend the day on Facebook?
