My daugther is a council tenant and has an emergency, by this I mean that the glass light fitting has fallen from her bathroom ceiling and is dangling by the Electrical Wiring as it has done since early this morning. Council Workmen were obviously inept in the first place seeing that instead of the Light Fitting being correctly attached it was actaully stuck onto the Ceiling. My daugther rang Hounslow Customer Services this morning to register the Health & Safety Emergency and was told that yes! it would be treated as an Emergency however because it was to be treated as such there would be a time frame of 48 Hours BUT!!! no actual time was given we have taken turns today to sit in and wait for the Maintenance person all to no avail. My daughter's a Widow of 18 Month's with a young child and chooses to work instead of getting Social Benefits. Consequently she phoned customer services this evening to explain that we had waited in all day but she had to now go back to work until 8.30( my grandaugther is at this moment in our lounge doing her homework) she did not and neither did I expect the woman who answered her call this evening to say that it all depended on what she considered a prority. Putting bread on ones table is priority enough, this young women needs to be sent on a course on how to deal with customer service requests politely and sympathetically not with condescension. What do our Council consider an EMERGENCY? just supposing the fitting had fallen or was to fall onto either my daughter's head or my grandaughter - what would their reaction have been?
Mr & Mrs Councillor's you need to be aware of how your staff are demeaning the Council and make them aware that an Emergency should be treated as such and sorted out A.S.A.P. Both our daughter and grandaughter have had there showers around our house today and will also it would seem tomorrow.
