BRENTFORD LOCK SWANS BELIEVED TO HAVE LOST ALL SEVEN CYGNETS, TOGETHER. The cygnets are thought to have been washed away after a sudden rise in the water level following last Friday's sudden downpours. Only two weeks old, they would not have been strong enough to combat the surge and would have been swept down the sluice. It is a familiar story at Brentford Lock, with cygnets usually being lost this way most years. But it is very sad to see all seven (if that's correct) disappear at once. Today the adult swans continued to wait at the top of the sluice. There is little hope any of their offspring will have survived.
