Vaccines are coming in by Rail and Air and is being done directly with no middleman. Other plans are in place as a fall back. It's road haulage that is affected and annoying and sensational that may be, it is prudent. It has to be remembered that Aids was spread across Africa by Hauliers contacts and behaviour and a lack of action and education until it was way, way too late. In this situation international hauliers are ordinary people when not in their cabs. Unlike aids this virus does not need close contact or irresponsibility. Hauliers can be absolutely pedantic about precautions but are still susceptible to infection just like anyone else. They have to come into contact with other people in different locations by sheer nature of their job. It could be a breakdown, trailer change, customer inspection, documentation issues, stop over, fuelling or rest stops or meal stops. This variant is clearly virulent enough to seriously worry all authorities here and abroad. What is astonishing is that there does not seem to have been any contingency in place for testing or screening hauliers since all this started. Maybe there was or is, but it's not very well documented. |
