Yes times have changed at least for the "blankoes" amongst us ( am I allowed to say that, it is about myself). My gran of 90+ died around 1956 - she was from a huge family, 3 girls and 13 brothers, there were others that never reached maturity. Amazingly all the brothers, apart from the youngest, served in the Army and survived the 1st WW. While other families were all but wiped out. One of the brothers had about 12 children, the rest had slightly fewer, a sister also bred a very large family - the other sister was a spinster and gran only had one child, my mum. Those statistics were the norm back then but not so now. |
