| The simple answer to Bernard's query is because the emphasis of planning policy from national level downwards is all about making the most efficient and effective use of land, which includes building upwards to secure high density development. Personally I don't agree with it but it's no different to how with train services operators are simply providing trains comprising more carriages but with less seating, so that they can cram more people into a single train. All doomed to failure, short-term 'solutions' to the fundamental problem of excessive population growth, but until any authority in power tries to deal with that fundamental issue, trains will continue their transformation to cattle trucks and buildings will go higher and higher. |
