Yes can we opt out if we don't have kid's in State schools or don't use it? Can we opt out if we have private medical insurance? Of course not because it cannot otherwise work. We live in times of extremes of violence and defence does not just mean bombs and bullets, it also means intelligence gathering and the most deployed form of defence is prevention. Sometimes it will mean the risks and sacrifices of those who are employed to defend our free society. And they at least deserve to have the equipment and facilities to meet what may come. I have no issue with Ms Cadbury and her Quaker principles. But am not sure this is really a pragmatic way of representing the local electorate. The most to expect would be to opt out of some aspects but your taxes go to defence, hospitals, homes and welfare. But really that would cost more to administer than is really practicable. I would rather see the achievements of her family repeated and extended. Bourneville was a brilliant concept and is still one of the better places in which to live and work today. I have family who love it there. 20 more places like that and we might have a more stable and harmonious country. I would rather our MP tackle corrupt and inadequate Housing Associations planning laws and procedures and the host of dubious developers doing no favours at all for the social fabric of our society. |
